Slide Scanning Requirements
- Colour or black & white
- 110 Instamatic slides in 30×30mm mounts
- 110 Instamatic slides in 51×51mm (2"×2") mounts
- Card or plastic mounts
Slides may have superficial damage such as dust, scratches, fingerprints etc. but otherwise must be free of major physical damage and mildew.
Slide Scanning Results
A 110 Instamatic slide scanned at 4000ppi produces an image of approximately 2520×1880 pixels. This is equivalent to taking the same picture today with a 4.7 mega-pixel digital camera and can produce prints up to 8.4"×6.3" (A5) when printed at 300dpi.
Recommended Scan Options
Manual Cropping
Normally a thin black border will appear on slide scans, this is the silhouette of the mount. This unsightly border can be removed by cropping. We manually crop each frame to include as much of the original image as possible. Automatic cropping offered by our competitors uses a "one size fits all" approach that can crop important details or leave black borders.
Colour Correction
Even carefully stored slides are susceptible to discolouration and fading over time which often appears as a blue or purple tint across the entire image. Colour correction is a semi-automatic process that takes place in the scanner hardware to restore faded and shifted colours. We manually process and check each image to ensure the best possible scan results.
Digital Cleaning
Digital Cleaning is the process of removing unsightly dust, scratches, fingerprints and other minor imperfections from scanned images. This process does not affect your original films or prints in any way.
Our Digital Cleaning option now includes:
- Digital ICE automatic dust and scratch removal
- Manual retouching
- Red eye removal
