Print Scanning Results
The scan resolution of a print is limited by the resolution it was originally printed at. In most cases a scan resolution of 300ppi is optimum.
A print scanned at 300ppi can be reprinted upto the same size as the original and often slightly larger with good results.
Because of the inherent low resolution of digitised prints we recommend you scan the original negative whenever possible.
Recommended Scan Options
Manual Cropping
Depending on the style of the original print a border may be present in the scanned image. This unsightly border can be removed by cropping. We manually crop each frame to include as much of the original image as possible. Automatic cropping offered by our competitors uses a "one size fits all" approach that can crop important details or leave black borders.
Colour Correction
Even carefully stored prints are susceptible to discolouration and fading over time which often appears as a tint across the entire image. Colour correction is a semi-automatic process that takes place in the scanner hardware to restore faded and shifted colours. We manually process and check each image to ensure the best possible scan results.
Digital Cleaning
Digital Cleaning is the process of removing unsightly dust, scratches, fingerprints and other minor imperfections from scanned images. This process does not affect your original films or prints in any way.
Our Digital Cleaning option now includes:
- Digital ICE automatic dust and scratch removal
- Manual retouching
- Red eye removal
